Chapter 13

Credit Counseling

As part of the changes made to the Bankruptcy Code in 2005, every individual who wishes to file a Chapter 13 bankruptcy must  attend a Credit Counseling session within 180 days before filing bankruptcy.  Once the session is completed the individual will be issued a certificate of attendance which must be filed with the bankruptcy court at the time that the Chapter 7 case gets filed.

The Credit Counseling session may be attended in person, via telephone or via internet.  The fee that each approved provider charges varies between $30 and $60.
